Are You Enthusiastic Enough to Get a Job?

One thing employers like are enthusiastic employees; people who take pride in their work, their skills, even their appearance. So, if you're currently looking for work then enthusiasm is something you need to think about.

Your first point of contact with a potential employer will probably be your CV or application form. Take a look at your CV. Do you sound like an enthusiastic person? When you talk about previous jobs are you using a language that sounds like you enjoyed what you did? Do you enthusiastically convey your skills and personal qualities? This is the starting point for an employer to see you have enthusiasm for working and might just be enough to make them want to get you in for an interview.

Of course, the interview then gives you another opportunity to show your enthusiasm. You can do this through eye contact, positive body language and by smiling and nodding as the interviewer talks about the job and the company.

Enthusiasm might seem like a minor thing but it can make a big difference in securing employment rather than being overlooked because you "didn't seem to want the job!"

Gary Bedingfield Training are pleased to offer another chance to attend our one-day Train the Trainer course in central Glasgow. Although our Train the Trainer courses are usually delivered "in house", this will be our fifth "open" course.

This special event is available to a very limited number of attendees on a first-come-first-served basis. Gary Bedingfield's Train the Trainer is an intensive course delivered over a single day; exploring areas such as learning styles, training resources, delivery styles, assessment and evaluation.

As most people will tell you, entering a training room or delivering any kind of training for the first time can be a daunting and nerve-racking experience, and this course aims to make that experience as easy as possible, introducing you to the basics and helping you to quickly become effective and confident.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Recognise the different learning styles
  • Plan and design training to gain commitment and enthusiasm
  • Run a training session and supervise training
  • Check that your training is effective and that learning has occurred

Who is the course for?
Our 1-day Train the Trainer Express course was created due to popular demand to meet the needs of staff who are training to be trainers but have limited time available.

The course consists of five units covering learning styles, training plans, assessment, methods of delivery, running a training session, bringing your training to an end and making the most of evaluation.

The course is not accredited but you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Another Successful Train the Trainer Workshop

Since launching "open" Train the Trainer courses back in August 2013, Gary Bedingfield Training have enjoyed growing success with this workshop format. Up until then, our courses were only available for in-house delivery but an increasing demand for an "open" course where trainers from different organisations could attend led us to launch these bi-monthly events.

Our March 2014 Train the Trainer course was another full house with representatives from the adult care, child care, food, engineering and building industries. This one day course is ideal for both experienced and novice trainers and looks at all issues faced by trainers, from getting things started to integrating assessment, choosing training aids and dealing with challenging behaviour.

Be a Master of the Meet and Greet

Simple interview tips...

When it comes to interviews, how you perform in the first few minutes is crucial to your success. Research suggests you have just 90 seconds to make 90 per cent of your lasting impression so it’s important to give a lot of consideration to how you’re going to get things started.

Entering the interview room can be one of the most daunting experiences in your working life, and it’s even more so if you don’t have a clue what you’re going to do. This is why we need to master that art of the meet and greet.

There are four things we need to have considered before entering the interview room. Appearance, likeability, confidence and the words we will use. Appearance involves our choice of clothing and our body language. Always dress as smartly as you possibly can. I’ve never heard of anyone not getting a job because they were too smartly dressed, but I’ve heard of people not getting a job because they wore jeans or appeared to have no interest in their appearance. Dressing smartly will also help with your confidence – look good, feel good.

Likeability can be achieved very simply with a smile. Smiles break down barriers; it’s as simple as that. In addition, employers want to employ people they like.

It’s important to know what we are going to say when we enter an interview room. An incomprehensible mumble is unacceptable. Practice your opening line, but keep it simple. “Good morning, I’m John Smith, it’s nice to meet you,” is all you need, but say it with confidence and enthusiasm.

A question I often hear as an employment advisor, is should I offer to shake hands or wait until the interviewer shakes hands with me? The simple answer to this question is always be the first to offer to shake hands. It not only shows an understanding of interview etiquette but also shows confidence in yourself and the situation you are in.

By combining these simple steps and practicing them before your next interview, you will be far better prepared and give yourself a better chance to get that job you wanted.
